About Maria 01

Maria 01 is a community-driven initiative founded in 2016 and co-owned by the City of Helsinki(34%), Startup Foundation (33%), and Helsinki Enterprise Agency (33%). Before 2016 Helsinki needed a physical space where the startup community could gather and showcase the booming startup ecosystem in Finland. As a pleasant coincidence, in 2014, the premises of the old Marian Sairaala (Maria’s hospital) were emptied to move its operations somewhere else.

Maria 01 operates as a not-for-profit organization that provides a grounded working model looking after its members’ interests. Today, Maria 01 has positioned itself as one of the leading startup operators in the Nordic region. Their community provides a thriving environment for industry-agnostic startups, recognized venture capital firms and investors in Europe, startup ecosystem organizations, and large enterprises with a strong foothold in the tech community, helping each other succeed.

With their robust network of partners, experts, and community builders, they equip their members with the right tools, working spaces, and knowledge to build upon their businesses. Maria 01’s community facilitates the right bridges needed to access different funding options, customers, new services, and talent—their unique location and connection to the global startup and venture community foster collaborations beyond borders.
