Zonear is from the same city brought to you Ovelin, the last winner of Startup Sauna. So we have high expections for this Tampere Startup.

Zonear is a 1-year-old startup that has developed some cool HTML5 technology. The solutions for Mobile App platform ranges from Ad &Creative Agencies, to Travel planning to events all build with a custom maps that fits the need of the customer. They specialize in customized map-based mobile guides for indoor and outdoor areas.

In the heart of the tech, is a robust and modular javascript framework and a build system with automatic testing. So far, they have been using the technology to develop customized HTML5 map applications in a project-based model, but they are now looking to pivot into a new product and a scalable business model.

Mikko Tikkanen founded Zonear with Timo Pietilä, both graduate from Tampere School of Art and Media. They joined forces with Markku Haukijärvi and Matti Lehto. Zonear started with developing cross-platform mobile apps with custom maps, now they also design middle-ware. Their new project BoilerBuild enables developers to remotely build, optimize and deploy their web applications with just one click.

Timo Pietilä, CEO OF Zonear, says that there will be change in the future: “At the moment we are thinking about productizing our build system for web apps which we created for internal use originally. The problem which spawned this system was something we experienced when developing HTML5 web apps and couldn’t find any suitable ready-made solution that was designed specifically for continuous integration of web app code.”
